Controlled Atmosphere Stunning
Multi-Phase Stunning System Based on a Controlled Atmosphere
The CAS-system operates on the basis of a multi-phase principle in which an optimal stun is achieved without the occurrence of convulsions. The total time of stay is approximately 3 minutes. Various mixtures can be applied in the Stork CAS installation. Current installations utilize CO2 in conjunction with atmospheric air in a modified composition.
Advantages
- No quality reduction due to blood spots and bone fractures
- Birds remain calm through stunning process, no convulsions
- The birds are fully and definitely unconscious at the moment of hanging
- Improved working conditions, as picking shackles can be closer to the birds
Introducing CAS 1000
Recent increases in hourly processing capacities and trend towards heavier live weights have led to the introduction of CAS 1000, a high capacity system able to meet these new processing requirements. While there has been no change in process times and gas mixtures from our traditional CAS system, the use of a wider transport belt and, with heavier birds in mind, an increase in tunnel height provide the additional space needed for the larger volumes to be processed. The total length of the system will not increase.
